Forestry sapling cultivation
Zalaerdő PLtd manages its own sapling production of high priority, providing the production of good-quality planting substances with identified origin that are used in artificial forest reconstructions, forest replacements and in forest plantations.
Seed-reproduction substance is produced in four smaller nursery gardens besides the 61-hectare Nursery Garden in Bajcsa managed by the Forestry Company in Nagykanizsa. The right to the existence of the four small nursery gardens are proved by the natural silviculture becoming conspicuous as they support breeding of the reproduction substance collected mostly on the site. Our nursery gardens can fulfil the sapling demand of the private limited company almost entirely; the proportion of purchased saplings is below 5% in a year.
Watering-problems have been solved in our gardens entirely; furthermore, a modern refrigeration plant, a granary, greenhouses, special nursery garden machines and machinery help the quality sapling production. 10-15 million saplings appropriate for planting are produced in average yearly; 80% of them consist of leafy and 20% of them of pine saplings. Most of them are used by our company and the remaining parts are sold either at home or abroad.
On the basis of the accomplished developments and of the quantity and quality of the produced saplings it can be proved that the Nursery Garden in Bajcsa belongs to the leading nursery gardens of Hungary.

Christmas tree production
Spruces, blue spruces and Nordmann firs are cultivated on the Christmas tree plants of our forestry companies, on about 20 hectares. Container blue spruces have been produced in the Nursery Garden in Bajcsa since 2001. Christmas trees are cultivated only on Christmas tree plants, no Christmas trees are felled in forests.
Saplings cultivated in our nursery gardens are planted on Christmas tree plants after schooling, cultivation of about two more years and root cutback. Planting out happens in a system that provides an appropriate space for the future Christmas trees to grow. Depending on tree species the trees are nursed, tended and cultivated for 5-10 years until they reach their required sizes.
Tens of thousands pieces of Christmas trees can be found on our Christmas tree plants for more years. Each year 20th November is the beginning of the standard Christmas tree felling, however, we always start it later that our Christmas trees would remain more durable.
