The Zalaerdő PLtd opened the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács and the Szentpéterfölde-Pond in the ownership and fish farming management of the company for fishermen on 13th March 2021, thus, the fishing season of 2021 could start at the ponds of the Forestry Company some days before the World Water Day.
The Zalaerdő PLtd shall inform all people interested that referring to the Government decree of 484/2020. (XI.10.) about the second stage of protection measures used during the crisis period we are not allowed to receive guests at our accommodation facilities from 11th November 2020 until the provision has been cancelled and we are going to close the Lookout Tower in Nagykanizsa, the trains of the forest railway cannot be booked even upon special orders; furthermore, we are cancelling our planned programmes for an unspecified period of time.
You are not prohibited to visit forests in accordance with the curfew enforced on 1st April 2020. You are allowed to visit the hiking trails, the park forests and the training paths - until the Government of Hungary prescribes it in a different way – in the future as well.
Foresters are accused of cutting down trees many times and hence, they will reduce the areas of our forests. However, this is not true in this form. The accusation is originated from insufficient knowledge the most probably, as a lot of people do not know the processes of silviculture, whose first step is the seed- and sapling cultivation. At Zalaerdő PLtd the Nursery Garden in Bajcsa, of the Nagykanizsa Forestry Company deals with this activity, where tree saplings are cultivated on a sixty-one-hectare area.
The first nursery garden was established by Károly Pagony, the forest officer of the contemporary Zichy-estate in Surd in 1921, after he had come home from the Russian war imprisonment.
The Hungarian Forestry Association created the Fa (Tree) Book documentary application on tree species supported by the Ministry for Agriculture. The application available for free both in Android and iOS systems gives the users help to identify 111 forest tree- and shrub species occurring in Hungary on the spot.
In order to increase the forest areas of our home country Zalaerdő PLtd has already accomplished almost nine hectares of afforestation within the framework of the Károly Kaán National Afforestation Model Programme in the autumn of 2019 and in the spring of 2020.
