Fish Stocking

Fish stocking in Februar

At the end of February, 2000 kg of three-summer-carps and 3000 kg of breams were stocked in the Kistolmács Pond, 1500 kg of carps and 3000 kg of breams in the Szentpéterfölde Pond.
Besides this fish stocking, obviously if it is needed, fishermen can expect other fish stockings in the summer.

Carp stocking

The fish stock of both the Kistolmács Water Reservoir and of the Szentpéterfölde Pond was enriched with carps in catch-size and with the average weight of 2 kilogrammes on 17th July 2023.
300-300 kilogrammes of carps of significant sizes were stocked into both dam-water reservoirs in the ownership and fish farming management of the company. The fishes arrived from Somogy County where they were selected after the early morning harvesting, then they were transported to their new homes in special fish tubs of oxygen-rich water.
After the general fishing prohibition period enforced on the day of fish stocking has expired, fishermen can enjoy their passion again from 18th July. We hope that guests visiting our region can spend days full of enjoyment at the ponds of fabulous surroundings in the following weeks.

Early spring fish stocking in Szentpéterfölde

The fish stock of Szentpéterfölde Pond surrounded by forests was enriched with 800 kilogrammes of carps of significant sizes and 235 kilogrammes of mixed breams on 9th March 2023.
The fishes arrived from Somogy County where both the fishermen and the customers were highly welcomed by the sunrise.
After the morning harvesting, firstly, fishes were selected then they were weighed and placed in the tubs of fish transporting trucks and they could be transported to their new homes by early afternoon.
The weight of scale carps was between 1.2-1.5 kilogrammes; as for bream species common breams, white breams and common roaches, which were chosen to be the Fish of the Year in 2022, were placed into the pond.
The bream species as a population in the water reservoir with a great reproductive ability provide appropriate food for predator fish species, and thus, they can support their continuous growth; bream species are also a part of fishermen’s catch-preys.
Hopefully, fishermen visiting this region can spend days full of enjoyment at the shores of this magnificent pond of Zala County in 2023 as well.

Year closing fish stocking at the Kistolmács Water Reservoir

Fishes were stocked into the Kistolmács Water Reservoir in the ownership and fish farming management of Zalaerdő PLTD on 9th December 2022.
The fish stock of the pond was enriched with 1000 kilogrammes of carps of significant sizes, with the average weight of 1,5 kilogrammes and with 250 kilogrammes of mixed breams; this way the conditions of successful catches can be established.
Fishing is considered to be a popular leisure time activity in Hungary. The target fish of the vast majority of fishermen is carp, which can be caught successfully from early spring to late autumn. At the same time, it is the most known domestic fish species as well, and it can be prepared in various ways, it is the slightly boned ingredient of a lot of delicious fish dishes.
The bream species as a population in the water reservoir with a great reproductive ability provide appropriate food for predator fish species, and thus, they can support their continuous growth; bream species are also a part of fishermen’s catch-preys.
We hope that as a result of fish stockings this year, providing the conditions of successful natural reproduction, as well as of the cultured and civilised behaviour of visitors willing to keep the rules, fishermen can spend successful and enjoyable days at the pond of magnificent environment in 2023 as well.

Predator fish stocking at the ponds of forestry company

Zander. If you hear the name of this fish species, not only fishermen but people keen on gastronomy will know that it is one of the most valuable and most popular indigenous fish species of our home country, the meat of which is white, sectioned, and the healthy and delicious ingredient of several fish dishes.
Zander is considered to be the main predator fish of the ponds managed by Zalaerdő PLTD and they can reproduce successfully year by year; however, besides that, their stock is regularly increased by placing young fishes. This happened on 19th May 2022 when the members of our professional staff, controlled and supervised by the fisheries management authority, stocked 6-6 thousand pieces of pre-reared, 3-4-centimetre-long zander young fishes both into the Kistolmács Water Reservoir and into the Szentpéterfölde Pond. The rich white fish stock of the water reservoirs provides appropriate food for this fast-growing fish species, as a result of this, they can have the size a of catchable fish after two years. Zanders avoid the parts of watercourses of water reservoirs covered by loose sediments, on the other hand, they settle down gladly at logs, rocks or at building structures in the watercourse.
Zanders spawn in the month of April, when apricots bloom, when the temperature of water is 10-14 °C, in pairs, hidden from human eyes. Firstly, males (milter) choose the most appropriate place for spawning, these are fine underwater rooted areas of woody and herbaceous plants, and they clean these areas from mud and fine water sediments moving their tails fan-like. This “nest” is guarded by the male and he tries to entice the female one (spawner) moving his head. They pair above the nest, turning their head into the direction of the tail of the other one, then females lay their eggs moving and turning slowly, varying their directions; the eggs stick immediately to the cleaned roots due to their sticky cover. Males guard the nest full of eggs alone during the first week keeping egg-guzzling fishes away and at the same time, they flow fresh, oxygen-rich water with their breast fins onto the eggs.
Growing larvaes eat planktons in the beginning, then having reached the size of 3-4 centimetres start eating fishes. Later on, they choose their food from the fishes occurring frequently in the watered area, not really by their species, but by their sizes. Common bleaks, common rudds, as well as common roaches chosen to be the Fish of the Year in 2022 belong to their frequent food. As for their eating habits, when they rob, small fishes try to swim away fan-like, and if they do not succeed to catch a prey, they will not chase their victims any more.
This fish can be named either zander or perch, depending on, which size the certain fish has. Fishes above the weight of one and a half kilogrammes are called perch, and they cannot rarely be found in the ponds of the forestry company.

From fish pond into the fishing water of Zala County

The autumn period is considered to be highly important for companies involved both in managing fish ponds and fishing water areas.
As long as fish harvesting of fish ponds through water drainage, storing fish caught from the ponds and transporting them to the market will mean a lot of tasks on a daily basis in case of fish producing ponds until the festive period of Christmas, in case of ponds used for fishing restocking the quantity of fish caught during the year will be an actual task establishing the conditions of successful fishing catches of the upcoming year(s).
Getting close to the end of the year of 2021 companies managing fishing waters are preparing for both the winter period and for the following year at the same time. Besides cleaning water shores and maintaining objects they are restocking the fish stock of the ponds as well.
Fish stockings are carried out at the water reservoirs in the ownership and fish farming management of the Zalaerdő PLTD year by year more times – besides providing the conditions of successful natural reproduction – in order to give fishermen visiting these areas the possibility to spend days full of fun and enjoyment at the shores of these ponds in this magnificent environment.
The fish stock of the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács was enriched by 3000 kilogrammes, whereas the fish stock of the Szentpéterfölde Pond surrounded by a forest by 1500 kilogrammes of carps with significant sizes weighing between 1.2-2.5 kilogrammes on 10th November.
The fishes arrived from Somogy County, where they were selected after the morning harvesting, then they were weighed and put in the fish tubs of the lorry providing the appropriate professional conditions of transport, and they could occupy their new home in the afternoon.
After fish stocking a general fishing prohibition is enforced at both ponds until 12th November; you are allowed to fish exclusively for predator fish species keeping the fishing regulations from 13th November.
The vast majority of the inhabitants of Hungary is keen on fishing so fishing is said to be the most popular leisure time activity of our home country. A significant part of Hungarian fishermen target carp to catch, which can be caught with several fishing methods from spring to late autumn successfully; however, they are also one of the best-known fish species in Hungary, which can be cooked variably, and they can be a delicious and less bony ingredient of several fish dishes.

Carp stocking at the ponds in the fish farming management of Zalaerdő PLTD

Summer fish stock restocking was carried out by the Zalaerdő PLTD on 20th (Tuesday) July 2021, enriching the fish stock of both the Szentpéterfölde-Pond, and the Water Reservoir Kistolmács with 300-300 kilogrammes of carps of significant size. The fishes arrived from Somogy County into the waters of Zala County.

Year closing fish stockings at the fishing ponds managed by the Zalaerdő PLtd

Fish stockings were carried out at the water reservoirs in the ownership and fish farming management of the Zalaerdő PLtd on 4th December.
The fish population of the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács was enriched by 3500 kilogrammes, whereas the fish population of the Szentpéterfölde Pond surrounded by a forest by 2000 kilogrammes of carps with significant sizes weighing between 2-3 kilogrammes. The Company could establish the conditions of successful fishing catches of the upcoming years with these fish stockings.
After fish stocking a general fishing prohibition is enforced at both ponds until 6th December; you are allowed to fish exclusively for predator fish species from 7th December – keeping the fishing regulations.

Summer fish stocking at the ponds of the Forestry Company

In accordance with the preliminary plans summer replacement of the fish population was accomplished by the ZALAERDŐ PLtd on 22nd July 2020.
300-300 kilogrammes of carps in the right size and with the average weight of 1.5 kilogrammes were stocked both in the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács and in the Pond in Szentpéterfölde; both are in the ownership of the Forestry Company.

Carp young fishstocking in Kistolmács

The vast majority of the inhabitants of Hungary is keen on fishing so fishing is said to be the most popular leisure time activity of our home country. A significant part of Hungarian fishermen target carp to catch, which can be caught from spring to late autumn successfully; however, they are also one of the best-known fish species in Hungary, which can be cooked variably, and they can be delicious and less bony ingredient of several fish dishes.
Nowadays, carp is one of the most popular fresh water fish species on our continent. To their reproduction in spring the water needs to warm up continuously and a water temperature of 16-18oC is necessary. They spawn in smaller groups among the plants in rich shallow edge waters, in case of rivers on flooded meadows, as spawn eggs have a characteristic feature to become adhesive after fertilization, so they can adhere to aquatic plants and blades of grass. The first feed of the hatching fish larvaes is rotifers and crabs from lower orders; afterwards they mostly feed on invertebrates living in mud; they also feed on plant seeds and sprouts in smaller parts. They become fertile at the age of 3-4 years.
Large, three-summer carps of this indigenous fish species are stocked in a significant quantity in the autumn each year to establish successful fishing catches of the following years(s). In addition, 5,000 3-4 cm carp young fishes were placed in the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács on 22nd June, this year as well.

The Fish of the Year was stocked in Kistolmács and in Szentpéterfölde

As a result of the public voting organised by the Hungarian Ichthyologic Society (Magyar Haltani Társaság) zander was given the Award of Fish of the Year in 2020; and the two water reservoirs in Zala County in the ownership and fish farming management of the ZALAERDŐ PLtd were enriched by pre-reared, 3-4-centimetre long zander young fishes.
The Forestry Company pays attention of high priority to the development of the fish population of the ponds in the ownership and fish farming management of the company; significant elements of this development are providing the conditions of natural reproduction and conscious fish stocking.
Predator fish species are valuable and popular fishes of our fishing waters. The rich white fish population of the water reservoirs provides appropriate food for this fast-growing fish species, which can reproduce successfully year by year. Purchasing difficulties and high prices will limit stocking nice sized predator fish species, therefore, young fishes are stocked every year, which reach the right size of catch using the natural food basis of the ponds. After stocking Northern pike young fishes in April 6000-6000 pieces of pre-reared zanders were stocked in both water reservoirs on 14th May.
Zander is considered to be one of the most valuable fish species of our natural waters, and belongs to the catch of fishermen in a significant quantity. This predator fish species popular with fishermen can be caught with several fishing methods. Its body is elongated, its head is big, it has strong teeth in its mouth. It is one of our domestic fish species, which has two back fins. As the most noble member of the European Percidae family it grows faster and bigger than its relatives; its meat tastes especially delicious.
Zander spawns at the water temperature of 10-14 °C, usually in the month of April (when apricots bloom). This fish species reproduces in pairs, and puts its eggs on the fine, underwater roots of aquatic plants (willows, alders etc) at the shores. After spawning it does not leave the numerous eggs behind; it guards the nest full of eggs for 5-8 days, keeping the egg-guzzling fishes away and flowing some fresh water to the young ones with the help of its breast fins. The growing larvaes eats planktons in the beginning, then, when they have reached the size of 3-4 centimetres, they start eating fishes. After that they choose their food among the fishes occurring frequently in the water, not really by their species, but rather by their sizes.

Northernpike young fish stocking in Kistolmács

Pre-reared Northern pike young fishes were stocked by the ZALAERDŐ PLtd in the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács in the ownership and fish farming management of the company on 15th April 2020.
The 3-4-centimetre long young fishes were placed by two or three at a time in their new homes at the water shore by the members of the professional staff.
Northern pikes have one of the greatest growing abilities of our domestic fish fauna, their growing pace is determined by the quantity of the available food and the climate circumstances. One of their characteristics is that their head ending duck’s beak-like is big comparing to their body, and they have strong predator teeth in their mouth. This fish species will find the necessary living conditions at the shore zone of the two water reservoirs managed by the company, and they usually stay at their regular natural habitat all year long. Northern pike young fishes usually feed on different bigger organisms such as fishes, insect grubs or even snails. Adult Northern pikes are not fussy predators, they ambush their prey fish, they do not chase them. These diurnal predators feed almost all year long, their appetite can decline just during the spawning period of February and March, and in the summer months.

Yearclosing fish stocking

The autumn fish population restocking was finished by stocking of bream species in the fishing ponds managed by ZALAERDŐ PLtd.
On 22nd November, the fish population of the Szentpéterfölde-Pond surrounded by forests was enriched with 300 kilogrammes, the fish population of the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács with 500 kilogrammes of mixed breams. Bream species can successfully reproduce in both ponds year by year; however, their populations need to be restocked as the individuals of these species are not only popular prey fishes with fishermen, but they mean a part of the food of predator fish species as well.

Northern pike young fish stocking in Szentpéterfölde

The main predator of the water areas with open-water habitats managed by the ZALAERDŐ PLtd is zander; however, the aquatic plants settling along the shore, trees fallen into the water and the branches of trees and bushes can provide an ideal habitat for Northern pike.
The fish population of the pond surrounded by a forest was enriched - over the natural reproduction - by 2000 pieces of pre-reared Northern pikes on 9th April 2019.
3-4 cm young fishes were stocked there by the members of the professional staff to help them find a hiding place at the shore.
Northern pike has one of the greatest growing abilities of our domestic fish fauna, which is a sport fish type popular with fishermen and can be caught with several fishing methods. In particular, it is a diurnal predator; its gluttony can decline during the period of spawning in February-March and in the summer months.

Year closing fish stockings

Fish population restocking was carried out by ZALAERDŐ PLtd on 3rd December at the fishing ponds managed by the company.
3000 kilogrammes of carps were stocked in the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács, 1900 kilogrammes of carps in the Szentpéterfölde-Pond; furthermore, the fish population was enriched by 500 and 300 kilogrammes of mixed breams.
We hope that as a result of fish stockings this year, providing the conditions of the successful natural reproduction and of the cultured and civilised behaviour of visitors willing to keep the rules fishermen can spend successful and enjoyable days at the ponds in their magnificent environment in 2019 as well.

Stocking of pre-reared carps in Szentpéterfölde

5000 pieces of carp young fishes were stocked into the Szentpéterfölde-Pond in the ownership and fish farming management of the ZALAERDŐ PLtd on 15th June, which was the last event of the young fish stocking processes of the given year.
This fish species with its elongated and sideward flattened body is one of our most popular fish species with fishermen, and they belong to the fishermen’s catch most of the time. Carp is the fish species reared and bred in the largest quantities of the domestic fish farming companies, which is stocked in large quantities into water areas in fish farming management.

We could stock the Fish of the Year

4000 asp young fishes were stocked both into the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács and into the Szentpéterfölde-Pond in the ownership and fish farming management of the ZALAERDŐ PLtd on 16th May.
The Hungarian Ichthyologic Society (Magyar Haltani Társaság) puts the Fish of the Year Award to the public vote year by year; this award was given to the asp in 2018.
The asp with its sideward flattened and slender body is an open-water predator; however, it belongs to the carp families including peaceful fish species. They have no teeth, but their lower jaw bends a bit upwards in the front, which helps them to grab the prey. They look for food either lonely or in small groups with just some other fishes; they feed on planktons and on tiny invertebrates in the beginning, later, on fish.
The pre-reared, 3-4 cm young fishes of this hard reproduced fish species got to their new home from the fishpond of the V-95 Ltd in Nagyatád, making the fish population of the ponds with a good reputation even richer.

We stocked zanders

The fish population of both the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács and of the Szentpéterfölde-Pond were enriched by 6000 zander young fishes each, on 8th May.
The ZALAERDŐ PLtd pays attention of high priority to the development of the fish population of the ponds in the ownership and fish farming management of the company; significant elements of this development are providing the conditions of natural reproduction and conscious fish stocking. In accordance with the regulations of the fish farming plan 3-4 cm pre-reared predator young fishes are stocked into the ponds year by year, which reach the right size for catch using the natural food basis.
The predator fish species are valuable and popular fishes of our fishing waters. Zander lives at the clog in the bed of the water reservoir, they appear at certain hiding places in groups. They choose their prey mostly on the basis of their sizes, when they rob little fishes flee fan-like. This fish species is one of our most popular and most valuable fishes, which belongs to the fishermen’s catch most of the time.

Year opening fish stockings

This year fish population restocking was first carried out by the ZALAERDŐ PLtd on the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács managed by the company.
To replace the predator fish population of the 11.2-hectare pond – over the natural reproduction – 2000 pieces of 3-4 cm pre-reared Northern pike young fishes were stocked on 18th April, so they could find hiding places in the plants and among the roots of the trees along the shore.
Northern pike is a species with one of the nicest colours of our fish fauna, whose body is long-shaped, their head is big comparing it to their body and their mouth reminds us of a duck’s beak. They have strong and conical teeth in their mouth, which help these glutton predators to grab their food. Northern pike plays a significant role in fishing at our natural waters; they are popular with fishermen, their meat is delicious, white, but bony. The rich white fish population of the water reservoir provides appropriate food for this fast growing fish species.

Fish stockings in 2017

The main predator of the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács and of the Szentpéterfölde-Pond managed by the ZALAERDŐ PLtd is zander, which is one of our most valuable fishes. To be able to sustain and to develop the zander population – over the natural reproduction – 6000 pieces of pre-reared 3-4 cm young fishes were stocked into both ponds last year; these fishes reach the size of catch using the natural food basis.
Northern pike likes the areas full of aquatic plants. Over the natural reproduction, the 14-hectare Szentpéterfölde-Pond surrounded by forests was enriched with 2000 pieces of young fishes.
The most important period of fish stockings is autumn. 2700 kilogrammes of carps which are the most popular with fishermen were stocked into both ponds at the end of last year. Bream purchasing problems of the past years seem to be solved; the fish populations of both ponds were enriched by 500-500 kilogrammes of mixed breams with the weight of 100-500 grams per piece in the year of 2017.
We hope that as a result of fish stockings, providing the conditions of the successful natural reproduction, the successful catch of brown bullhead with fish-trap in Kistolmács and of the cultured and civilised behaviour of visitors willing to keep the rules fishermen can spend successful and enjoyable days at the ponds in their magnificent environment in 2018 as well.

Zander stocking on our ponds

Zander considered to be the main predator of the open-water areas is one of our most valuable and the most popular fishes. To be able to sustain and to develop the zander population – over the natural reproduction – pre-reared 3-4 centimetre-long young fishes are stocked year by year; these fishes reach the size of catch using the natural maintaining ability of the pond.

Stocking of predator fish in Szentpéterfölde

To be able to sustain and to develop the predator fish population of the Szentpéterfölde-Pond – over the natural reproduction – 2000 pieces of pre-reared Northern pike young fishes were stocked on 12th April.
The 4-5-cm young fishes were stocked along the shore of the pond surrounded by the spring forests, so they so they could find hiding places in the plants and among the roots of the trees along the shore.
Northern pike plays an important role in fishing at our natural waters; they have explosive moving style, and are glutton predators. The rich white fish population of the reservoir provides appropriate food for this fish species of beautiful colours.

Restocking of fish population on the Water Reservoir in Csömödér

The first fish stocking of the year in 2017 was carried out by the ZALAERDŐ PLtd on the 29-hectare Water Reservoir in Csömödér managed by the company.
After the carp stocking of 2780 kilogrammes (3-5 kilogrammes per piece) at the end of November 3000 kilogrammes of carps with significant sizes (1,5-3 kilogrammes per piece) were stocked into the Water Reservoir in Csömödér on 10th March. In accordance with the operative fishing regulation general fishing prohibition is enforced on the day of carp stocking and for the following six days, so fishermen can enjoy their passion from 17th March.

Restocking of fish population in autumn

Getting close to the end of the year of 2016 companies managing fishing waters are preparing for both winter and for the following year. Besides cleaning water shores and maintaining objects one of the main tasks is to restock the fish population of the ponds; that way we can establish the possibilities for successful fishing of the following years.
There are two dam-water-reservoirs in the fish farming management of the ZALAERDŐ PLtd. The 11.2-hectare Water Reservoir in Kistolmács with the utilisation for fishing and the 14.6-hectare Szentpéterfölde-Pond where fish restocking is carried out in accordance with fish farming plan year by year. The fish population of the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács was enriched with 3490 kilogrammes of carps (1.5-3 kilogrammes per piece) on 17th November, whereas the fish population of the Szentpéterfölde-Pond with 2699 kilogrammes of carps (1.5-3 kilogrammes per piece) on 18th November.
In accordance with the operative fishing regulation general fishing prohibition is enforced on the day of carp stocking and for the following six days.
You are allowed to fish only for predator fishes at the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács from 24th November 2016, whereas at the Szentpéterfölde-Pond from 25th November 2016.

Bream stocking

Bream species have an important role in our fishing waters; they are a part of the food of predator fishes, but they are also popular with fishermen as prey fish as well.
To be able to increase the bream population of the 11.2-hectare Water Reservoir in Kistolmács 25 kilogrammes of mixed breams were stocked by the owner on 10th June 2016.
Year by year bream species can reproduce successfully in the Szentpéterfölde-Pond hidden in the hugs of forests. The aquatic plants settling along the shore mean a perfect place for hiding and spawning for peaceful fishes; these places also mean a hiding place for the young fishes as they can have a bigger chance there to grow up or to survive. The bream population of this water area was enriched 5000 pieces of pre-reared, 2-4 cm breams on 17th June 2016.

Fish stockings in spring 2016

Zander – a predator fish species – is a valuable fish of our fishing waters and popular with fishermen.
The fish population of predator fish species - over the natural reproduction - can be sustained with stocking pre-eared fishes. Young fishes reach the size of catch using the using the natural maintaining ability of the pond year by year.
6000-6000 pieces of pre-reared zanders were stocked both into the Water Reservoir in Kistolmács and into the Szentpéterfölde-Pond by the members of the professional staff on the last day May.
Both water areas are open-water habitats, whose main predator is zander; however, areas at the shore with thick aquatic plants are optimal for Northern pikes as well.
